Chen Xin: Artists Are Sign Beings on Behalf of Beauty

PresidentVilla£ºWe can find it fom your works that you are sensitive to colors.Many of your works have strong visual impact, for example, the work called Yellow ------ Slightly Hot.Could you talk about your understandings of colors and creation.

Chen Xin£ºAs to the employ and prcess of colors, I¡¯ve always kept a sensitive attitude.I follows certain principles of relationship, because we cannot decide it is the rich and complicated colors, the ssynthetic or abstract images, the splendid painting techniques, or the unique pursiut of art taste.We know nothing about those; of course, it is not necessary to get a clear anser. What we could do is to well express the emotions and imaginations through those works. Maybe in the process of exploring and the forming of ideas and refletions, the viewers have got their answer. Meantime, besides the pursiut of comparison in harmony of colors which is for the need of being in consistent with the main subjects of the works. I think a good work should be able to well express the surges of emotions and integrate with the author¡¯s ideas. Anyway, the contents and forms of works are the art languages that I empoly, so I create a kind of emotional atmosphere -------- happy, sad, lost or whatever.
PresidentVilla£ºOil painting is a borrowed thing. Part of your learning is in Europe. Some of your works reveals the flavors of China,for example the series of Dreams of Tang Dynasty. What¡¯s your understanding of the blending of Chinese and western arts.

Chen Xin£ºThe phylosiphy of art design is an important part in my process of creation.It has very important effects. The phylosiphy comes from the constant reflecting of the subject of Chinese and weatern cultures and try to explore the ability of individual expression. I think it¡¯s neither a simulation of the West concept nor a pure eastern one, but a kind of fusion of art attitude. I think it can create a spirit space of self in the pursiuing of ¡¡ãfreedom¡¡À between the western abstract language and ehereal concept.
PresidentVilla£ºArtists are always try to explore their understandings of the world through their works. Could you talk about the world that you try to express in your works?

Chen Xin£ºWhen the two integrate into one scene, they are independent of each other but also united in the overall picture of the expression. The form of contradiction is an important feature in my work, which makes me feel pain and struggle. After all, forms of artistic expression is something of sublimation with a lot of exaggeration and beautification. Through the contents of the scene, I naturally display my inner conflict, anxiety and cramps.It is my real emotional experience which reflects the complexity of contemporary human personality.

My feeling is that some kind of psychological needs are met while they use the abstract graphics design to shape self-psychology and illusion. Each of the creative process has a illusive sense of confusion.
PresidentVilla£ºThrough your works, we can feel a kind of passion and tension. What do you think is most important for artists in creating of works or in the process of mind interpreting?

Chen Xin£ºI think it is the attitude to art. To me, the reason for painting is simple because in my works the most important thing is neither the layout of space nor the image, but the feeling of caring the times.For the effect in the overall picture, you are free to use your imagination to try to figure out my working mood. I do not insist on the monotonous unity of arts; on the contrary, rich art can bring many different misleading emotional experience, which is what I¡¯ve been always persistently pursued.

The vitality of any artist lies in extreme personalization. Artists creates new formal beauty. We can say that there is his/her unique sign of beauty behind any great artist. From this sense, the artists have to display their own subjective will of the full potential to express the self to a maximum. Nowadays means of art are diversified, and the only purpose of my painting is to use self-created design phylosiphy to enhance the sense of the typical works of unique symbols to make them more individualized.
PresidentVilla£ºSome people think "Specified contemporary thought and phenomenon should have specified art forms synchronosly, and only such art could reflect the times and the presents"

Chen Xin£ºThis era allows the coexistence of a variety of art forms and methods. The growing and learning  backgounds of each artist shapes his/her point of view in learning and understanding this world. I have no objection to that. What I value is the stuty of painting language itself, and meantime the expression of contents attached to language forms is also one of my concerns. In the whole process of tcreation, I have been adhering to a way of art mode ------ an abstract way of expressing images and generalizing the main subject of contents. I look forward to, explore and experience the feeling of beauty that art brings me. I like this feeling.
PresidentVilla£ºWu Hong, professor and art critic, University of Chicago, say that "although the Chinese economy seems to be recovered quickly, but in the art market, China is still in ¡¡ãcold period¡¡À. How do you view China¡¯s current art market? what relationship do you think between art and the market?

Chen Xin£ºNo matter what the current Chinese art market like, an artist should be honest with him/herself, do not cater to other people, do what you really want to, and if necessary, carry out some important artistic exchanges to constantly improve the professional knowledge. Artists have to be brave to bear this pressure, because people who lack creative thinking in this era will soon be substituted.

Art is an independent form of existence. The relationship between art and the market is limited by the times, so in any case we can not divide them. Art and the market is composed of artists, critics, curators, galleries, art museums and collectors.
PresidentVilla£ºYou learned several years in  German. As to oil painting, what is the teaching mode and art market of the contemprary Germany oil painting in your mind like? And what are the diffrences from that of China?

Chen Xin£ºGerman¡¯s teaching mode brought me a brand-new experience of creating which enables me to get out of the academic mode and makes me experience the real freedom and happiness. This free mode of creation is kept till now. It feels that the Germany professors are exchanging with a young artist when they are with their students. They willl guide your direction of artistic thinking. Of course, you are free to express your artistic views, and can use various means to complete your work. China¡¯s art education put  omore attention to shape, form and color. In recent years, many universities in China have set up experimental art classes, so students do not only have the modeling capbility but also exert the personal expression of thought to a maximum.
PresidentVilla£º¡ãPresidentVilla¡¡À means to create a warm house of good taste through art and design. Well, how do you understand home? What kind of style your house or studio is?

Chen Xin£ºHome, in my opinion, is not only the haven for soul, the place for body to relax, but also a place reflecting one¡¯s aesthetic taste. Ads to my studio, I hope it can reflect the uninhibited and highly free design, the expression of a simple and neat tension, but also fully embodies my life taste, and display the natural essence and the harmonious scene of blending with modern environment.
